Species-appropriate animal husbandry
Species-appropriate husbandry and feeding of livestock are central components of organic farming. Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the questions most often asked by parents. We know choosing baby formula can feel overwhelming, but we’re here to help make it easier with clear answers and guidance you can trust.
About HiPP HA Stage 1
Do HiPP formulas contain corn syrup?
No, HiPP formulas do not contain corn syrup!
In fact, in the European Union, infant and toddler formulas are tightly regulated, and corn syrup (or corn syrup solids) is not permitted as a carbohydrate source in infant nutrition in the way it is commonly used in some US formulas.
Which version of HiPP formula do you sell?
We only sell the German HiPP version of HiPP formulas.
Good to know:
HiPP products are available in different country versions (such as German, Dutch, or UK versions), mainly due to different local labeling and packaging requirements. However, all HiPP formulas are made under the same strict EU organic standards and regulatory controls, ensuring consistent safety, ingredient quality, and organic certification across all markets.
Important: All HiPP formulas are produced in the same manufacturing sites in Germany, and all production follows the same high-quality EU organic certification system and controls, regardless of whether the product is sold as the German, Dutch, or UK version.
What does "Combiotik" stand for?
The term "Combiotik" refers to the beneficial combination of natural lactic acid cultures (probiotics), valuable fibers (prebiotics), and the natural folate called Metafolin. Metafolin is a patented ingredient that is more easily absorbed than the synthetic folic acid commonly found in US formulas. These nutrients work together to support a healthy gut flora and strengthen the immune system.
What's the difference between HiPP Comfort and HiPP HA formulas?
HiPP HA and HiPP Comfort formulas are both based on partially hydrolyzed proteins. This minimizes the risk of developing allergies. The main difference between those two formulas is that the Comfort formula is additionally reduced in lactose, which helps with issues like gassiness and constipation.
HiPP Comfort is suitable for allergy-prone babies that have troubles like gassiness, constipation or colic.
What carbohydrates are used in HiPP Hypoallergenic (HA) formulas?
All HiPP Hypoallergenic (HA) formulas (PRE, Stage 1 and Stage 2) use lactose as a single source of carbohydrates. Lactose is the most natural supply of energy for infants. Lactose is also the sole carbohydrate in breast milk.
Do HiPP Hypoallergenic (HA) formulas contain starch?
No, all HiPP HA Hypoallergenic formulas do not contain starch. While babies can digest starch from birth, it is avoided in formulas for allergy-prone infants because they tend to have sensitive digestive systems and an unbalanced gut microbiome. To make the formula as easy to digest as possible, starch is not added. Lactose is the sole carbohydrate in all HiPP Hypoallergenic (HA) formulas.
Q: What's the difference between HiPP German HA and HiPP Dutch HA formulas?
The only difference is the packaging and content size, the ingredients are the same.
- HiPP Dutch HA comes in 800g metal cans.
- HiPP German HA comes in 600g more sustainable cartons, with the formula sealed inside a protective silver foil pouch for freshness.
No matter which version you choose, you're getting the same formula with the same ingredients.
Good to know: All HiPP formulas are made in the same German production facility, ensuring the highest quality standards across the entire range.
Until what age can I give my baby HiPP Hypoallergenic (HA) Stage 2?
HiPP Hypoallergenic (HA) Stage 2 is suitable for babies from 6 months old. The formula is also suitable as toddler milk and can be given until your toddler no longer drinks formula.
If you’re considering switching to regular cow’s milk or a standard toddler milk, it’s best to check with your pediatrician first to see if your child is ready. In some cases, babies may outgrow general digestive sensitivity over time—but this does not apply to confirmed cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA), which requires medical guidance.
My baby has confirmed CMPA, can I use HiPP Hypoallergenic (HA) formula?
No. If your baby has confirmed cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA), HiPP Hypoallergenic (HA) formula is not suitable.
HiPP HA formulas are designed for babies with sensitive digestion and/or cow’s milk sensitivity. The formula is not intended for the dietary management of diagnosed CMPA.
If CMPA is confirmed, please consult your pediatrician before trying out a new formula.
What’s the difference between HiPP Hypoallergenic (HA) Stage 1 and PRE?
Both formulas are suitable from birth to 6 months. They contain the same ingredients. The only difference is that HiPP HA Combiotic Stage 1 has slightly higher nutritional values that keep your little one full for longer. Therefore, it is perfect for allergy-prone infants who seem to still be hungry after a meal.
What is Metafolin?
Metafolin is a natural form of folate and a patented ingredient in HiPP Combiotik formulas that is more easily absorbed than the synthetic folic acid commonly found in US formulas. Folate is vital for babies because it supports healthy cell growth and development, especially in the brain and nervous system, helping to ensure their strong start in life.

Baby formula & product safety

- HiPP Comfort formula is for babies with digestive troubles, unregular bowel movements, gas, constipation, and colic issues.
- HiPP Anti-Reflux formula is for babies with regurgitation issues and spit-up.
How should I store formula and how long can it be used after opening?
Please store formula in a cool, dry place indoors, away from heat sources and sunlight. Please also do not store opened formula in the refrigerator, as the powder can become damp and spoil there. Never freeze formula. Properly storing formula can help ensure it remains fresh and safe until the expiration date on the packaging! Opened milk formula should be used within three weeks.
What does "Combiotik" in HiPP Combiotik stand for?
The term "Combiotik" refers to the beneficial combination of natural lactic acid cultures (probiotics), valuable fibers (prebiotics), and the natural folate called Metafolin.
Metafolin is a patented ingredient that is more easily absorbed than the synthetic folic acid commonly
found in US formulas. These nutrients work together to support a healthy gut flora and strengthen the immune system.
Does the formula come with a scoop?
To ensure correct proportions, every one of our formulas comes with a manufacturer-provided scoop. Please only use the provided measuring spoon to dose in the proper quantities, ensuring your baby always receives the appropriate nutrients.
How do I check the batch number of my formula in case of a recall?
Every formula order comes with a batch report showing the batch number and expiration date. You don’t need to do anything — we archive all batch numbers and, in the unlikely event of a recall, we will contact affected customers directly. We provide this extra level of transparency for your peace of mind. To our knowledge, no other online formula shop offers this.
What's the differnce between HiPP Combiotik German and Hipp Combiotik Dutch?

The Dutch version comes in 800g metal cans, while the German version is packaged in 600g sustainable cartons.

The Dutch range is completely starch-free in every stage. The German range mostly contains starch, but some stages are also starch-free and are equivalent to the Dutch version:
- HiPP Combiotik PRE German → starch-free (equivalent to Dutch Stage 1)
- HiPP Combiotik Stage 1 German → contains starch
- HiPP Combiotik Stage 2 German→ contains starch
- HiPP No Starch Combiotik Stage 2 German→ starch-free (equivalent to Dutch Stage 2)
- HiPP Combiotik Stage 3 German→ contains starch

Where are our products sourced from?
Our products are sourced directly from the manufacturers or official wholesalers, ensuring freshness and authenticity. Made with clean ingredients and fully following strict EU standards, you can feel confident in every purchase for your baby.
Where do I find the English feeding guide?
Every order comes with a printed feeding guide in English! So you can be confident in feeding your baby the correct amount of formula!
Where do I see the expiration date of the formula?
The expiration date is printed on the bottom of the formula container in German date format (DD/MM/YY, for example: 31/12/26 = 31st December 2026).
We guarantee a minimum of 6 months of shelf life on all formula you receive, although most products have a much longer expiration date. You can view the current batch expiration date on each formula product page.
Why is German formula considered the gold standard in infant nutrition?
German formulas, like HiPP formulas, have decades of trust with parents worldwide. They are made under strict EU organic standards, which are stricter than USDA organic, and are known for rare or no recalls. German formulas are based on the latest scientific research and contain no harmful ingredients such as corn syrup, artificial flavors, pesticides, antibiotics, or GMOs.
This combination of safety, quality, and science is why many parents and pediatricians worldwide consider German formula the gold standard for babies.
